| The handling of
all personal information by the Eastern Counties
Hospice Palliative and End-of-Life Care Network
(the Network) is governed by the Freedom of Information
and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). This Privacy
Statement explains how we collect, use, and secure
your information when you visit our Web sites. The
Network is committed to protect the privacy of its
visitors.
The Network subscribes to all of the current
laws that govern privacy on the Internet. This
means that the Network needs to subscribe to
the Federal Privacy Act. In addition, by virtue
of its relationship with the non-governmental
sector, there is a need to comply with the Personal
Information Protection and Electronic Documents
Act. The Network is not responsible for the
content or the privacy policies of the websites
to which it may link. Additionally, The network
complies with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
Guidelines on the Proper Use of Cookies. (For
additional information on Cookies see

What information is collected by the
Network web sites and how is it used?
The Network does not automatically collect any
specific personal information, such as name,
phone number or e-mail address. It would only
obtain this type of information if supplied through
an e-mail survey or subscription. The Network
does not disclose, give or sell any personal
information about visitors to the website. Only
the minimum amount of personal information is
used by The Network
for the purposes of responding to requests or
to ensure the security of the system. No information
is used to create individual profiles, or disclosed
to anyone else without previous consent.
The Network employs software programs to monitor
network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts
to upload or change information, or otherwise
cause damage. This software receives and records
the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer
that has contacted the website, the date and
time of the visit, and the pages visited. There
is no attempt to link these addresses with the
identity of individuals visiting the site unless
an attempt to damage it has been detected.
Unless specifically noted otherwise, neither
electronic systems or e-mail are secure information
transmission methods. It is not recommended to
transmit electronically sensitive personal information.
Session Cookies are part of The Network Web
Content Management System and reside on the web
browser. They have no expiry date since they
expire as soon as the visitor closes the web
browser. Session cookies remember information
only for as long as the visitor operates the
web browser in a single "session" (or "sitting").
Session cookies can be used by website operators
to determine information such as what parts of
a website are popular, how long people stay on
certain sections of a website and what browsers
people are using.
The Network does not use persistent cookies
to track how visitors use the site or to determine
sites previously visited. The system will notify
visitors before any of these cookies are used
so that they may refuse them. (A "cookie" is
a file that may be placed on a hard drive without
the visitors’ knowledge by a website to
allow it to monitor their use of the site.) |
